Round LogoTHRIVING FAMILIES MAKE MEALTIME A PRIORITY!

Our At-Home Family Challenges are always a fun activity for families to do together, plus they are super easy!

What is your favorite family meal?  Are you a taco family?  Do you prefer lasagna?  Or maybe you like chicken fried steak.  Most of us have a recipe that brings up good memories of meals shared with people we love.

This month, we want to see your mealtime in action!  Sync up your family calendar and find a night that everyone will be home.  Pull out a favorite family recipe and give every family member something to do—it could be washing the veggies or measuring the water,  setting the table or even the actual cooking!  Or the meal could even be a simple one with noodles and a jar of spaghetti sauce.  The goal is to make mealtime a priority and get everyone involved in some way.

After you have created your meal, we want to see a pic!  Post your pic on This Side UP Family’s Facebook page or email it to info@thissideupfamily.org between April 28th and midnight on April 30th.  Tag it with #TSUFathomechallenge.  For extra entries, post it on your personal Facebook, Instagram or Twitter page with the same hashtag!

WHY??!!!

YOU COULD WIN.  All entries will be submitted for a Family FUNnection basket that contains a gift card, board game and more!

THE BIG WHY.  Because Family Time is so important and has been proven to be a key indicator of a child’s success and well-being.   Children who are positively connected to their family relationships are less likely to make poor choices and more likely to become confident, content community participants as they grow up!  That relationship building starts NOW, no matter the age of your child!  It’s never too early and it’s never too late to focus on family connection!  And the results are trajectory-changing, for the family and community strengthening!

Thank you for participating in this purposeful challenge to increase FAMILY TIME in your home and our community.  Winner will be announced May 2nd.

AT-HOME FAMILY TIME CHALLENGE

Our At-Home Family Challenges are always a fun activity for families to do together, plus they are super easy!

THRIVING FAMILIES Spend QUALITY TIME Together!

We all know that when we spend time with people we love, we are drawn closer together.  In all of our hustle and bustle of getting kids to practices/games/rehearsals/concerts/parties, we spend time together, but it’s more like co-exisiting instead of being true quality time.

This month, we want to see what quality time looks like for your family!  Set aside a time to get together—maybe it’s over a meal or a day at the park or you turn the radio off and just talk as you are driving in the car.  Decide what you want to do as a family and take a pic of your family doing it! Then, post your pic on our facebook page OR email it to us at info@thissideupfamily.org between June 23rd-25th.  For extra entries, tag your post with #TSUFathomechallenge and post it on your personal Facebook, Instagram or Twitter page!

AT-HOME FAMILY TIME CHALLENGE

Most of us learned to say “Thank you” at a young age, but as we get older, we sometimes forget to add these words—especially when talking to those who are closest to us.  It’s one of the reasons we love the month of November and the chance to give thanks.  We all want to see an “attitude of gratitude” in our homes.

This month, we want to see what your family is thankful for!  Were you given a gift that you share as a family?  Do you have a special family tradition that you are grateful you get to do together?  Is there someone who has shown kindness to your kids?

Show us something or someone YOUR family is thankful for!  Take a picture of you and your family with the thing or person you are thankful for and send it to us!  Post it on our Facebook page (and tag it with #tsufathomechallenge) or email it to info@thissideupfamily.org  between Nov. 24th – 26th!

Winner will be announced Nov. 29th.

Step 3:  Place your Word of the Year in a common area for your family to see and focus on all year long.

Step 4:  Share your word with us!  Take a pic of your Word of the Year (with your family in it) and post it on our Facebook page or email it to us at  info@thissideupfamily.org by Jan 31st for a chance to win a Family Funnection Basket!

Family Strong 2018 At-Home Value Challenge

Thriving Families…EXPRESS KINDNESS!

Step 1:  Cut out as many hearts as you can—the more the better. You can use construction paper, scrapbook paper or whatever you have on hand! Place the hearts somewhere easy for everyone in your family to access. Post it notes also work great.

Step 2:  Challenge each family member to come up with kind words about another family member and write them on on a heart-shaped note—without signing it so that it’s anonymous.

Step 3:  Encourage each person to put their notes on the family member’s door when they are not looking. If more than one person shares the room, be sure to put their name on it.

Step 4:  Continue writing kind words and posting them on doors for the rest of the month. Take a pic of one your family participating in this challenge and post it on our facebook page or email it to us at info@thissideupfamily.org by Feb 28th for a chance to win a Family Funnection Basket!

Money… What an emotionally charged topic.  And yet we, as parents need guidance on what to give, when to give and for what we should pay.  Instilling good money habits in our children is arguably one of life’s most important lessons.  Teaching our children how to manage and save money is crucial, so we’ll talk through practical tools to start with the basics and build on them!

Oct. 9 – Growing a Kind and Thoughtful Child
Today’s children live in a world where they are bombarded with negative messages, many of which devalue respect for others.  To help children grow into responsible, caring adults, parents must be intentional in teaching children how to treat others with compassion, respect and thoughtfulness.  Children are taught responsibility when they help with chores at home.   But, volunteering together strengthens family bonds, enhances communication, and sends a message to your children that you’re a team!  Learn ideas and opportunities for how kids can serve at home and how your family can serve in our community.
