Wills and Estate Planning 101

      This Month's Family Value - Focus on Finances! Join us for a FREE 90-minute seminar that’ll de-stress and bless your family on the topic of wills and planning for the future! What is a Will?  How do wills work?  What big problems are left to my family if I pass away without a will?  The Settle Law Firm will be here to educate on the important documents you need to have in place (declarations of guardianship, a “living” will, medical power of attorney and more) to make sure you are in good shape! Leave with some documents and/or valuable resources that will help put these important pieces in place for your family!  Jnana Settle, attorney, will hold a question/answer time at the end, too!   This Side UP! Family and the Plano Public Library system are partners to equip and empower parents on This Side UP! Family Value of the Month. Spend an hour with other parents and our incredible parenting expert Cynthia Garrison, Certified Family Life Educator and Licensed Social Worker! (You can even register for a FREE 30-minute one-on-one Parent Coaching Session following each POWER HOUR) Oct. 9 – Growing a Kind and Thoughtful Child Today’s children live in a world where they are bombarded with negative messages, many of which devalue respect for others.  To help children grow into responsible, caring adults, parents must be intentional in teaching children how to treat others with compassion, respect and thoughtfulness.  Children are taught responsibility when they help with chores at home.   But, volunteering together strengthens family bonds, enhances communication, and sends a message to your children that you're a team!  Learn ideas and opportunities for how kids can serve at home and how your family can serve in our community. 2020 has been a hard year for all of us.  Isolation, job loss, at home learning, tough health decisions, and the current political climate can make us feel like we’re farther apart than ever.   Everything has looked different this year, but there is one thing that’s still the same for everyone,  we all love our families. Every dollar you give to This Side UP! Family goes directly into supporting ALL families with at home date nights, family connection nights, parenting education, and more. We’re all learning new ways to be together and we at This Side UP! Family are so grateful to be going into our 10th year of celebrating and strengthening family.  Your donations will help us start 2021 strong with in person programming, new COVID protocols, more virtual resources, and all the tools we need to continue supporting what we all have in common- family.   Once again we are creating free At-Home Date Night Kits.  We know it is not the same as in-person together.  But it will be an evening of marriage strengthening and family fun! These kits will include a Talk Time Card for parents (homework for your date), a $25 gift card for dinner from a local restaurant, a $5 Amazon gift card to rent a movie or other family activity, and various activities to keep kids busy during your date time.  The I Date My Spouse Dinner Gift Cards are limtied quantities and ARE first come, first serve based on registration timestamp.
